What's the best audio format to store music files on pc?

I've got many old WAV tracks from the time I was young, but they seem to be consuming too much space. But I don't feel like deleting them, they are really good and all the CDs are lost or given away... Maybe I should convert them to MP3 or is there any other audio formats to save even more space on pc?
